Paul Burkhead
As as physical education teacher I feel that my personality lends itself to a positive and fulfilled learning environment for my students. One of my traits shows that I am willing to make changes to plans and modify the structure of my class as needed. I have structured lesson plans but I am flexible. I let my students come up with ideas for changes to the games and actives we play, often these ideas make the games more fun. For example, I began a unit on capture the flag, I used a bandanna as the flag. When students had the idea of using footballs for the flags and allowing teams to toss, hand off or pitch the ball to each other to obtain the objective, we incorporated it into our game. This along with many other small changes has created our own unique game that the students love. I have 100% participation and the kids are excited to play. I, of course, must use my judgement to make sure the changes are safe and within the scope of my lesson plan, but my personality type allows changes to be made and the result has been a very successful physical education unit.
